About the Songwriters:
Soy Emilia - 6PM ET / 3PM PT
A 2020 Latin Grammy nominee for Best New Artist, Soy Emilia is a project conceived by Colombian bassist, singer and songwriter Juanita Carvajal. Before creating Soy Emilia in 2015, Carvajal played bass with countryman Esteman for seven years, touring festivals including Lollapalooza Chile, Estéreo Picnic (Bogotá), Vive Latino (Mexico City), Machaca (Monterrey) and LAMC (NYC). Her music flows with simple melodies, hand-in-hand with electronic sounds, synthesizers and a mixture of Caribbean rhythms and guitars.
In 2017, Carvajal introduced her first single “Molesto,” later released on her first EP along with “Mala Intención” and “Tóxico,” produced by Julián Bernal and Felipe Álvarez from Polen Records. The EP gave her the opportunity to tour Mexico and Colombia as a solo artist for the first time. In 2018 she released her album Reconstrucción, a 12-track production that also includes "Hasta que Salga el Sol," "Cactux" and "Extranjera" and collaborations with Latin alternative music artists Javier Arce, Juan Por Dios and Medio Picky. A video for "Hasta que Salga el Sol," produced by Desierto Films, was filmed in Mexico City and received nominations in the BIME Pro Festival in Bilbao, Napoli Film Festival and BOGOSHORTS in Bogotá, Colombia.
Lena Burke - 7PM ET / 4PM PT
Cuban singer-songwriter Lena Burke began her career as a studio background vocalist for top Latin singers Plácido Domingo, Chayanne, Alejandro Sanz, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias and others. She wrote the 12 songs on her first album, the self-titled LENA, including her debut hit single “Tu Corazón,” a duet with her mentor, Alejandro Sanz. Throughout her career, Burke has collaborated with Gilberto Santa Rosa, Joss Stone and Franco de Vita, and traveled all over Latin America with the ALEX, JORGE & LENA tour.
In 2008, Burke played a leading role in the film La Mala, a Spanish-Puerto Rican production dedicated to the memory of the internationally renowned Cuban artist, La Lupe. On August 29, 2017, Burke received the keys to the City of Miami by Mayor Tomas Regalado, in recognition of her many years working as an ambassador for the arts for the city.
La Ross Maria - 8PM ET / 5PM PT
La Ross Maria, a nearly-17-year-old artist from the Dominican Republic, has exploded on the urban music scene. She was signed by the New Jersey-based indie label 829 Music Mundial in partnership with La Nueva Escuela in July of this year. Her first single, “Tu Vas a Tener Que Explicarme,” released in August 2020, was a massive success. Portions of her second single, “Mi Regalo Más Bonito,” went viral on TikTok, with fans waiting anxiously for the full song. After a mere few weeks on YouTube, the music video for the track has garnered more than 25 million views.
