Sydney, May 2, 2016 -- APRA AMCOS, ASCAP and Capitol Studios have partnered together for the 2016 SongHubs LA Edition.

Taking place May 2 – 6 at Capitol Studios, located in the iconic Capitol Records building in Hollywood, California, SongHubs will be comprised predominately of ASCAP and APRA writers, producers and artists and will be curated by Darrell Brown. Darrell, an ASCAP member, is a hit songwriter, arranger, producer and manager who has written songs for artists of nearly every genre of popular music, including Keith Urban, Neil Young, Bon Jovi, Dolly Parton and many more, as well as writing music for film and television.

A variety of artists have been hand-selected to participate in SongHubs LA Edition, which has demonstrated commercial success over the past few years and is expected to produce several radio- ready releases as a result of the week. They include two fully funded APRA members: Australian based Reece Mastin, who burst onto the scene in 2011 with both his debut and second album, producing multi-platinum selling singles; and London-based Australian, Tonino Speciale, who quickly established himself as the go-to-guy for the best up-and-coming UK artists, having co- written and produced many singles including recent hit Our Youth.

Established in 2013 as an APRA AMCOS initiative, with co-funding from the Australian Federal Government, SongHubs gives Australian songwriters the opportunity to collaborate and write music with some of the world’s best songwriters and producers. With SongHubs camps traveling from Sydney to Stockholm, London, Mumbai, Bali, Toronto and LA, APRA AMCOS is opening up access to the world market for Australian songwriters.

SongHubs LA edition includes nine other Australian artists who will join Reece and Tonino: singer and songwriter, Penelope Austin who has a prolific talent for collaboration. After many iTunes charting songs, Penelope’s most recent co-write with The Nexus in London sees the release of her first official single and debut album due out this year; platinum-selling singer and songwriter Nathaniel Willemse, who has earned comparisons to some of the greatest soul singers of our generation; writer and producer, Hook N Sling (Anthony Maniscalco), a multiplatinum ARIA-nominated record producer, songwriter and DJ; Tushar Apte, a writer and producer who has worked with X-Factor finalists and on international releases for Adam Levine and Chris Brown; Thief, the electronic brainchild of PJ Wolf; Josh Moriarty, lead singer, guitarist and principal writer for Australian band Miami Horror; Dennis Dowlut (Deutsch Duke) a multi-talented singer, songwriter and producer with a long list of successful projects under his belt; Jon Hume, frontman of Evermore for fifteen years, who now writes and produces for other artists; and Darren Cordeux, the songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer who is the creative force behind Australian rock band Kisschasy.

These Australian artists will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to collaborate with international elite including Mr. Hudson (Ben Hudson) (ASCAP), a multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer and DJ who has previously worked with Kanye West, Jay-Z, Duran Duran and more; Franc Tetaz (APRA), multi-award winning composer and producer who has won an ARIA for his work on Gotye’s Making Mirrors album in 2011, and a Grammy in 2013 for his engineering and mixing work on Somebody That I Used To Know. On top of this Franc wrote, produced and mixed seven songs in the Triple J Hottest 100 for 2011; Stuart Crichton (APRA) who has worked with a number of world-renowned artists such as Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Elton John and more as well as contributing to several top 10 UK and international hits; Leann Rimes (ASCAP), one of the most successful entertainers with a career spanning more than two decades; Aston Merrygold, British singer, songwriter, dancer and television personality; Natasha Bedingfield (ASCAP), BRIT Award-winning and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and more to be confirmed.

"ASCAP is excited to partner with SongHubs and Capitol Studios in providing a rare opportunity for wonderful songwriters from around the globe to foster creative collaboration,” said Loretta Munoz, ASCAP AVP Membership. “It is a great example of how we're committed to helping songwriters succeed. We are especially excited to have a songwriter with such unique gifts as Darrell Brown as curator for SongHubs LA."

"I've had many successes with music creators from Australia and I wouldn't have any success in my life it wasn't for the support of ASCAP, “ said Darrell Brown. “Saying 'yes' to ASCAP and APRA to curate at SongHubs at Capitol Studios was a no-brainer. It is going to be an out-of-this-world great experience. I couldn't be happier to be joining this amazing group of songwriters, producers and artists."

APRA AMCOS and ASCAP bridge the gap between our local Australian artists, writers and producers and offer them the opportunity to collaborate with high profile international teams under the SongHubs initiative. The tracks that are created are then submitted for placement with both local and international talent. To date, SongHubs residencies have resulted in over 300 new works created.
