New York, NY, Sept 25, 2015: From fall 2014 through spring 2015, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) teamed up once again with America SCORES to present its national songwriting mentorship program, The ASCAP Songwriter Residency. Today, the product of this year’s program – a free compilation album of seven original songs written and recorded by ASCAP songwriters and America SCORES public school students from six cities across the country – is available to stream and download at

The ASCAP Songwriter Residency is a partnership between ASCAP and nationally acclaimed after-school program America SCORES. It provides a platform for songwriters and composers to give back to their local communities by engaging and inspiring students in under-resourced neighborhoods. The ASCAP Foundation, a public charity dedicated to supporting music education and talent development programs, funds the program.

Each of the seven Residency workshops took place over the course of three afternoons, during which an ASCAP songwriter – from rising stars to Grammy Award-winning artists – collaborated with a group of 16-32 America SCORES students, co-writing an original song and recording it in a professional studio. ASCAP Songwriter Residency: Volume 7 represents seven of these three-day workshops in six cities across the country.

Additionally, The ASCAP Songwriter Residency has released a music video for each of the seven songs on the Volume 7 album. The videos feature the completed song and footage from the songwriting and recording sessions and premiered with select press partners such as, Elmore Magazine,The Huffington Post, Performing Songwriter, and VIBE. See a full list of links to the videos, below.

This year’s ASCAP Songwriter Residencies featured: Grammy Award-winning songwriter-producer Alonzo "Zo" Lee (Ludacris, Usher) with chart-topping country songwriter Walt Aldridge (Travis Tritt, Heartland) and chart-topping recording artist Chingy in St. Louis; acclaimed composer-songwriter Gabriel Mann (Modern Family, Rectify) in Los Angeles; Grammy and Emmy-nominated composer-songwriter David Wolfert (Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand) with songwriter-producer Johnny Blk (Daughtry, Jessie J) in New York City; Grammy-winning rapper-producer Malik Yusef (Kanye West, Common) with Golden Globe-winning songwriter Julie Frost (Pitbull, Beyonce) in Chicago; chart-topping R&B songwriter-producer Andrea Martin (En Vogue, Leona Lewis) in New York City; chart-topping country songwriter Dave Berg (Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney) with songwriter-producer Tony Esterly in Portland, OR; and chart-topping country songwriter Felix McTeigue (Florida Georgia Line, Dallas Smith) with songwriters Ellie Buckland & Isa Burke in Boston.

In addition to working with America SCORES, the ASCAP Songwriter Residency connected a songwriter with the PENCIL Partnership Program, which helps thousands of business and school leaders develop unique, school-based collaborations that have a lasting impact on the students, school community and school culture. Andrea Martin’s residency was with students from the East Fordham Academy of the Arts in Bronx, NY, one of the PENCIL Partnership schools that work with ASCAP.

About America SCORES
America SCORES is the largest urban school-based soccer organization in the U.S. with a mission to inspire urban youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world.
