New York, NY, Sept 22, 2015: The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) premieres the fifth music video, “Sister, Brother, Father, Mother,” from the ASCAP Songwriter Residency: Volume 7 album today with the Huffington Post. The track was co-written and performed by Gabriel Mann (composer of Modern Family, Rectify) and 16 America SCORES Los Angeles students of Braddock Elementary. It was written over the course of two afternoons, and recorded on a third at The Village Studios. Click here to watch the premiere on the Huffington Post website.

Commenting on the program, Mann said, “Working with the students brought me back to why I got into music in the first place. Songs that make you feel something, melodies that make you want to sing out loud. It was an honor to see what’s happening in these kids’ minds, what they care about, who they love. They have a very strong sense of what’s important at such a young age, and we had a great time exploring that together.”

The ASCAP Songwriter Residency has partnered with America SCORES Los Angeles on nine prior occasions. David Joseph, Executive Director of America SCORES Los Angeles, spoke of the value of the program: “There are few experiences that resonate for the students in our program like the ASCAP Songwriter Residency does. In pairing chart-topping professional songwriters with our students - for three intense days - the songwriters quickly become teachers, mentors, and role models who inspire. That is tremendously impactful. For the kids, seeing their own words transform into lyrics and having the opportunity to record a song in the studio is an incredible thrill."

The ASCAP Songwriter Residency, a partnership with acclaimed after-school program America SCORES, is an annual mentorship program that provides a platform for songwriters to engage and inspire elementary and middle school students in under-resourced neighborhoods around the country. The ASCAP Foundation, a public charity dedicated to supporting music education and talent development programs, funds the program.

“Sister, Brother, Father, Mother” is just one of seven tracks on the ASCAP Songwriter Residency: Volume 7 album, which will be released September 25, 2015, and will be available to stream and download at
