NEW YORK, May 11, 2015: ASCAP and America SCORES are pleased to announce that rising country songwriter Felix McTeigue (Dallas Smith, Florida Georgia Line, Heidi Newfield) will participate in the ASCAP Songwriter Residency. Felix will co-write a song with America SCORES New England students at Boston Teachers Union School (25 Walk Hill Street, Jamaica Plain, MA) on May 18th-19th.

Felix and the students will then record the song at Somerville’s Q Division Studios on May 20th. The finished song will be included on a special compilation album comprised of songs from this year's six ASCAP Songwriter Residencies. ASCAP produces and distributes this collection to each America SCORES school involved with the program, as well as to music industry influencers.

The ASCAP Songwriter Residency is a mentorship program that provides a platform for songwriters to engage and inspire elementary and middle school students in under-resourced neighborhoods. The ASCAP Foundation, a public charity dedicated to supporting music education and talent development, funds the program. For more information, click here.

Commenting on participating in the Residency for the first time, Felix said, “I have been working with ASCAP for years now on several projects and have always looked forward to participating in the ASCAP Songwriter Residency. I was lucky enough to come from a musical family, so I got to see the nuts and bolts of how popular music is really made. I can't wait to share that with these kids. I am hoping to learn as much as I can over these three days and to come up with something great.”

Dwayne Simmons, Education Director at America SCORES New England said, “The kids light up when they're in the studio. You can see the accomplishment on their faces when they hear the final mix. Having an ASCAP artist leading the sessions provides a level of legitimacy and excitement that a music instructor or teacher cannot offer. Our kids leave the residency with a deeper appreciation of the musical arts and a sense of ownership and pride for the final product.”

Edward "Felix" McTeigue is a musician, songwriter and record producer based in Brooklyn, New York. He has recorded with his band "Filo" and under the name "FDR". McTeigue plays all instruments on his 2005 three CD album "New Deal" (recorded as "FDR"), which consists of 50 songs written, recorded, and produced in 50 days. Notable songs McTeigue has written for others include "Anything Goes" on the gold-certified album Anything Goes (fast approaching platinum) by Florida Georgia Line; "Jumped Right In" on the gold-certified album/platinum-certified EP Jumped Right In recorded by Juno Award-nominated artist Dallas Smith; and "Wreck You" on the album What Am I Waiting For by Heidi Newfield.

This year’s ASCAP Songwriter Residencies in other cities have featured critically acclaimed composer/songwriter Gabriel Mann (Modern Family, Rectify) in Los Angeles; five-time Grammy-winning rapper/producer Malik Yusef (Kanye West, Common) with Golden Globe-winning songwriter Julie Frost (Pitbull, Beyonce) in Chicago; chart-topping songwriter Dave Berg (Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney) with songwriter/producer Tony Esterly in Portland; Grammy and Emmy-nominated composer/songwriter David Wolfert (Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand) with acclaimed songwriter/producer Johnny Blk (Daughtry, Jessie J) in New York City; R&B songwriter/producer Andrea Martin (En Vogue, Leona Lewis) in New York City; Grammy-winning producer/songwriter Alonzo “Zo” Lee (Ludacris, Usher) and country hit songwriter Walt Aldridge (Travis Tritt, Heartland) in St. Louis.
