Past ASCAP showcases at the CMJ Music Marathon have featured an array of promising acts, including alt-rockers GROUPLOVE, who scored a #1 hit on Billboard's Alternative chart with “Tongue Tied” in 2012; NME-dubbed “greatest punk rock ’n’ roll disco soul band on the planet” Gossip; and Las Vegas band The Killers, who performed at ASCAP’s CMJ showcase in 2003, just before they broke into the spotlight. The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers reminisces: "I remember being the first of three unsigned bands in an ASCAP showcase at CMJ. Two days later, Island Records signed us. When record labels were not willing to step up, ASCAP took us under their wing and gave us the opportunity to have our music heard."

In addition to the ASCAP Presents showcase, ASCAP AVP of Legal Affairs Christine Pepe will moderate a panel on "Curation, Aggregation and Syndication of Entertainment Content" as part of the NY State Bar Association's Entertainment Business Law Seminar, in association with CMJ Music Marathon. The panel takes place at NYU's Kimmel Center on October 24th from 2:40 to 3:40 pm.
