ASCAP and California Film Institute Launch Mill Valley ASCAP Music Café

New York, NY, August 27, 2012: The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and the California Film Institute are pleased to announce today a new partnership to produce the first-ever Mill Valley ASCAP Music Café, a series of music showcases at this year’s Mill Valley Film Festival, being held October 4-14. The Mill Valley ASCAP Music Café will take place over the course of three days during the Festival - October 11-13 - and feature an exciting and dynamic assortment of composers, songwriters and artists from across the musical spectrum and around the world.

“We are thrilled to work with the California Film Institute to bring such an incredible lineup of music performances to this year’s Mill Valley Film Festival,” said ASCAP Vice President and Mill Valley ASCAP Music Café producer Sue Drew. “The inaugural Mill Valley ASCAP Music Café will provide a unique opportunity for members of the film and music communities to come together, network and build relationships that might not otherwise exist. These connections will surely segue into future collaborations on any number of projects.”

The Mill Valley ASCAP Music Café will be the focal point for music at the 2012 Mill Valley Film Festival. It will be dedicated to showcasing the exceptional talent of emerging and established artists, including solo acts and major bands, and it will be a place where independent filmmakers can meet and interact with composers and songwriters to encourage collaboration between these two creative communities. This year’s program features three days of exciting programming, presenting songwriters and composers associated with Mill Valley Film Festival films along with other legendary and cutting-edge artists.

The Mill Valley ASCAP Music Café will run at the Sweetwater Music Hall & Cafe, located at 19 Corte Madera Ave, Mill Valley, CA 94941. Performances run each day from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. A complete line-up and schedule of artists and bands will be announced on September 12, 2012.
