ASCAP composer Judith Lang Zaimont has been awarded a commissioning grant by The Elizabeth & Michel Sorel Charitable Organization, Inc. in support of her work,  “Pure, Cool (Water) - Symphony No. 4.” Conceived as a consortium work, the music will be playable by a wide range of orchestras, both in its entirety and as individual movements equivalent to independent tone poems.

This five-movement piece is an exploration of the various states of water – rapid/running, falling, still, frozen, rolling – and is a project close to the Zaimont's heart: Her father was a prominent chemist specializing in water treatment and control, a past president of the National Water Pollution Control Federation, the New York City water commissioner under three mayors and was a consultant to the World Bank on water issues around the world.
