Nicole Atkins receives The 2005 ASCAP Foundation Sammy Cahn Award

Nicole Atkins

Singer/songwriter Nicole Atkins received the 2005 ASCAP Foundation Sammy Cahn Award for her song "Neptune City." Her songwriting blends the sounds of the Brill Building girl groups, old country crooning and dark psychedelia. Originally from Neptune, NJ, Nicole currently splits her time between North Carolina, New York, and New Jersey. She began writing songs while at the University of North Carolina, and in 2002 she was awarded 3 Asbury Music Awards, including Song of the Year, Top Female Vocalist, and Best Solo Act. Nicole has shared the stage with Norah Jones and Donovan, and appeared at the 2004 Great Bamboozle Festival with Sonic Youth and Patty Smith. She will be featured on a duet with Mark Lanegan on the upcoming Soulsavers record and she can be seen performing in and around the New York City area with her group, the Sea. The ASCAP Foundation Sammy Cahn Award, established in 1995 to honor Sammy Cahn's unique achievements as a lyricist and friend of music, is funded by a gift from Tita Cahn.
