In this most difficult year, music was a light in the darkness. In 2020, the global ASCAP family inspired us, lifted our spirits, and kept us connected when we couldn’t be with each other in person.

Our members and global affiliates wrote and published #1 songs on 27 separate Billboard Year-End Charts, and broke numerous streaming and chart records. They won the hearts of critics, and defined the sound of country radio and the holiday season. They earned the music industry’s highest honors, in every genre imaginable. They made Grammy history. They won Oscars and Golden Globes, CMAs and Pulitzer Prizes, daytime and primetime Emmys, Latin Grammys and World Soundtrack Awards. Their music was added to the National Recording Registry; they took all six spots in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020, and were slated for induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Beyond the chart positions and accolades, ASCAP members had an undeniable impact on our culture this year. They responded to the coronavirus epidemic with blazing, brilliant music. They wrote songs that captured the spirit of the fight against racial injustice and police brutality. Our members proved over and over again that music can reflect meaningfully on where we’re at as a society, and encourage our progress along the way.

Congratulations to ASCAP’s 2020 Billboard chart-topping songwriters and producers - and to all of our 790,000 members - for lifting our spirits, keeping us connected and inspiring change this year.
