ASCAP Applauds Congress for Passing Bipartisan Relief Package
December 22, 2020
NEW YORK, December 22, 2020 - In an essential and highly anticipated holiday miracle, this week Congress overwhelmingly passed a massive COVID-19 relief package and government funding bill, including the extension of unemployment benefits and PPP loans and a $15 billion provision to help save the live entertainment industry. The President is expected to sign the bill into law this week.
Below is a statement from ASCAP Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth Matthews on the passage of bipartisan relief package (12/22/20):
"We applaud Congress for passing this bipartisan package to provide additional relief for the millions of Americans whose livelihoods have been affected by the pandemic. ASCAP worked hard, on behalf of our members, to ensure the bill would extend important financial assistance programs to help music creators who are self-employed or independent contractors and those who own or work for small businesses. We are pleased to see help for independent music venues and small claims copyright court provisions also included. This legislation will make a difference in the lives of many of our music creator members and businesses they count on to earn a living, and we urge the President to sign it as soon as possible."
