Cynthia Erivo, Bernie Taupin, Diane Warren Earn 2020 Oscar Noms

January 13, 2020

ASCAP congratulates our members Bernie Taupin, Diane Warren and international affiliate Cynthia Erivo (PRS) for their Academy Awards nominations! These three acclaimed songwriters are up for a trophy in the Best Original Song category.

Bernie Taupin was nominated for his lyrics to "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again," the lone original song from Rocketman, the biopic based around his longtime songwriting partner Elton John. The pair recently won a Golden Globe for the song. This is Taupin's first Oscar nomination.

Diane Warren earned a nomination for "I'm Standing with You" from the inspirational drama Breakthrough. If Warren wins, this will be her first victory in 11 career nominations.

Cynthia Erivo's nomination is for "Stand Up" from the Harriet Tubman biopic Harriet; Erivo is also nominated in the Best Actress category, for the title role. If she wins, Erivo will set a new record for the youngest person ever to win an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). She previously earned an Emmy, Grammy and Tony for her work on the Broadway revival of The Color Purple.

Congratulations to all our nominees - we'll be rooting for you on February 9, when the Oscars air live at 8 ET / 5 PT on ABC!
