On November 28th, new music advocates, aficionados and a number of esteemed ASCAP composers gathered at NYC's India House for Music at the Anthology's (MATA) Annual Benefit Gala. Founded by ASCAP composers Philip Glass, Eleonor Sandresky and Lisa Bielawa back in 1996, MATA demonstrated yet again why it remains a vital force in its mission statement commitment to present, support and commission early career composers with the broadest range of styles. No wonder MATA was awarded the ASCAP 2010 Aaron Copland Award for their tremendous work in support of the music of so many emerging composers of our time.
