Alies is a Dutch/Australian composer, songwriter, violinist and producer based in New York. Her music ranges from solo instrumental pieces and lyrical ballads to full symphonic works.
She has performed in over 50 countries, in many of the worlds leading venues and festivals and has collaborated with artists including Nitin Sawhney, Sylvie Guilllem, Akram Khan, Sidi-Larbi Cherkaoui, Lin Hwai-Min, Ray Chen, Antony Gormley, Meryl Tankard, Elena Kats-Chernin and the Shaolin Monks of China, among others.
Alies recently received a Best Score nomination from Underwire Festival, UK for Garfield and an Australian Academy Award Nomination and South Australian Screen Award for Best Score for Michelle’s Story. The recipient of a Monash Scholarship, she is currently developing a screenplay musical at Columbia University.
The production Zero Degrees, musically directed by Alies during its world tour, received the Helpmann Award (Australia) and nominations for the Laurence Olivier Award, Critics Circle Award and Time Out Award (UK). In 2015 she composed and performed the score to Techne: Life In Progress, Sylvie Guillem’s final work, which enjoyed a sold out world tour.
Alies’ album, The Picture Box Orchestra, was released to critical acclaim and the group will tour Europe in April and May, 2018.
