Jesi Nelson

Raised in Delavan, Wisconsin, Jesi Nelson is a Los Angeles based composer for film & television. She started playing piano at the age of two, and by 10 years old, she knew she wanted to be a film composer after watching/hearing Thomas Newman's score for Meet Joe Black. She received her BFA in Music Composition and Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Master of Fine Arts in Music Composition for the Screen at Columbia College (Class of '15). Upon her move to LA, she interned for Danny Elfman at Studio Della Morte, and soon after started assisting composer Michael Kramer, writing additional music for the Emmy-nominated Disney/LucasFilm Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures TV series and Ninjago: The Legend of Spinjitzu, under his lead.

Last year, she was selected as one of 10 composers to participate in the highly competitive Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Labs at Skywalker Sound. As a result, she scored the feature film Jinn, which made its premiere at this year's SXSW to great acclaim. She was also the recipient of the Sundance Institute/Time Warner Foundation grant and was also chosen to write the music for the 2018 Sundance Film Festival trailer played before each screening. She continues to work on her own projects while stepping in to write additonally for other composers when able!
