Lucas Murray was born in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Having absorbed the rich musical influences of his home state as well as an education in Jazz and Music Theory from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, he began teaching music and performing proffesionally in 2012. He has composed and performed with a diverse array of bands in genres such as rock, soul, jazz, country, and hip hop, taught countless music students of all ages, and been on numerous tours both in the US and abroad. In 2016 Lucas relocated to Manhattan where he discovered a talent and passion for Film Scoring. Drawing on his background as a performer, Lucas fuses live- band instrumentation with a rich orchestral pallette and a keen harmonic sense to create evocative compositions which he has demonstrated in films such as A Year and a Day (2017) and Summer’s Folly (2017). Perpetually honing his craft, Lucas is in the process of writing and recording a song a day for the entire duration of the 2018. He is currently in his final semester of graduate school at NYU’s Steinhardt School where he is studying jazz and film scoring and will finish with a Master’s of Music in May.
