Jacob Morris Friedman is a film composer and songwriter in the New York City region. Comfortable writing and producing in any genre, his work in film scoring, orchestral composition, world music and pop/EDM reflect his ability to cross musical borders and create a global aesthetic. Judith Larsen, editor of Harvard Review calls his work “quite moving and played with an extremely rare sensitivity.” Sri Lankan sitar virtuoso, Pradeep Ratnayake declares, “Jacob’s music goes right to the heart.”

Jacob has scored the music for numerous films including five feature-length documentaries for the Mysterious China Series directed by Chris Nebe and JJ Osbun and produced by Monarex Hollywood. Other scores include Watershed, an environmental documentary, a promo campaign for the NOMAN Is An Island rowing race and Death Drill, a TV comedy. He has performed his jazz and classical compositions alongside acclaimed artists at Richardson Auditorium, Princeton, NJ, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington DC and Weill Recital Hall in New York City. He also performs original electronic dance music with notable DJs and producers at various venues in New York City.

Jacob was born in New York City and attended Columbia University where he double-majored in music and religion. He earned his Masters in film composition at NYU.

As a very active educator, Jacob leads group classes and teaches private lessons in piano, music theory and composition to many students throughout the Westchester and southern Connecticut region. He enjoys playing tennis with his wife and loves cats.
