Composer, sound designer, and music director David M. Brandenburg has written a wide variety of music for theater, television, and concert performance. Described in the press as “rousing,” “whimsical” and “inspired,” his work includes music for Broadway stars Jenn Colella and Jim Walton, the New York Knicks, Sesame Street, and the Off-Broadway production Taming of the Shrew: Extreme. He has worked on projects with Alec Baldwin, Laurie Metcalf, Jimmy Fallon, and Blythe Danner, and with directors Tony Walton, Lonny Price, and Scott Schwartz, among many others, including film students at Columbia University School of the Arts. David has conducted numerous large and small ensembles in studio, theatrical, and concert settings. He directed the Yale Jazz Ensemble for eleven years, performing around the region including at New York’s Iridium Jazz Club, opening for the Mingus Big Band.
He is currently Music Director of the Island Jazz Express, a Long Island big band, and Music Director and producer for the Hamptons Shakespeare Festival, a company he co-founded which presents theater and educational programs from eastern Long Island to New York City.
On the administrative side, David was Executive Director of The Choral Society of the Hamptons and South Fork Chamber Orchestra, and previously worked for Meet The Composer and the National Dance Institute. He has lectured on music for the Association of Yale Alumni, and has degrees from Yale College and Teachers College, Columbia.
