Bear McCreary

Sundance Film: Colossal, Unrest, Rebel in the Rye

Attending the prestigious Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, Emmy Award winning composer Bear McCreary completed degrees in composition and recording arts. However, his professional training stemmed from film music legend Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven, To Kill a Mocking Bird). As one of Bernstein’s select protégés, McCreary began to learn the tools of the trade working and orchestrating for the maestro. Bear first launched into pop culture with his groundbreaking score for the hit series Battlestar Galactica. He continued to rise in television, scoring for AMC’s The Walking Dead, as well as ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He received Emmy nominations for his scores to Human Target, Black Sails, and Outlander. Additionally, in 2013, while working alongside renowned producer David S. Goyer on Da Vinci’s Demons, he earned his first Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music. Most recently, Bear worked closely with executive producer J.J. Abrams in order to bring to life Paramount and Bad Robot’s highly anticipated, sci-fi thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane. One of many soundtracks that can be found through his boutique record label, Sparks & Shadows. Having spent his childhood immersed in film and television music; Bear is delighted to contribute back to the genres that inspire him to this day.
