Julia Barry is a composer, singer, and pianist based in Brooklyn, NY. Writing for concert, live theater, dance, film, and multi-media projects, her music has been described as "lush, rich…enigmatic" (Harmony Avenue), "poetic and haunting" (This Is Real Music), and "soulful, jazzy and deep" (Independent Music Scene). Currently active in the NY arts scene, Barry performs with groups such as the New York City Master Chorale, and recently held residencies at the New Dramatists Composer-Librettist Studio (2016), Drop Forge & Tool (2016), and the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop (current). Barry is especially interested in collaborative work and the social impact of the arts, as well as intersections with technology. Her studio, Julia Barry Productions, provides music and digital services for artists, caretakers, and progressives, while her latest EP, Just the Dear Ones, supports Music and Memory, a foundation that fights dementia with music.
