The Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Awards are granted annually to encourage talented young jazz composers.
About the Award: The ASCAP Foundation Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Awards are granted annually to encourage talented young jazz composers during the earliest stages of their careers. The Herb Alpert Foundation, a non-profit, private foundation established in the early 1980s, makes significant annual contributions to a range of programs in the fields of arts, arts education and compassion and well-being. Its funding is directed toward projects in which Herb and Lani Alpert and the Herb Alpert Foundation President, Rona Sebastian, play an active role.
Eligibility & Submission: Applicants must be US citizens, permanent residents or enrolled students with a valid US student visa, who have not reached their 30th birthday by December 31, 2019. Applicants must submit a completed application, and send in the notated score of one composition, plus biographical information listing prior music studies, background and experience. Applicants must also submit a CD of the composition, or a URL to stream it. Recipients are selected through a juried national competition.
Deadline: Applications must be received by December 15, 2019 (5pm ET). Hard copy materials bust be postmarked no later than December 15, 2019.
