ASCAP Payment System

Below is a description of the "Perf Type" abbreviations listed on your ASCAP statement. These performance types are related the value applied to a particular use of music. Use Code Use Type Use Type Description
BC Bridge/Cue Music used on a television program as a connective link between segments or portions of segments or to introduce, but not to identify, a personality or event.
BCA Bridge/Cue Ambient A Bridge/Cue use in a locally-produced program on a per program local television station that is less than 15 seconds and not inserted by the station.
BG Background Performance of music occurring in the background of a scene where the musician or musicians are not seen by the viewing audience. In some cases Bridge/Cue uses may also be designation as BG on a statement.
BGA Background Ambient Background use in a locally-produced program on a per program local television station that is less than 15 seconds and not inserted by the station.
BN Background Infomercial Background use in an Infomercial.
CJ Combination Medley Jingle A jingle used in a TV commercial that also contains one or more works that meets the definition of a Theme to Commercial.
CT Combination Medley Theme A Theme to Commercial used in a TV commercial that also contains one or more works that meets the definition of a jingle.
E Educational Performance on a College/University campus given under an Educational License.
F Feature Performance which is a principal focus of audience attention and is not a Theme, Background Music, Cue Music or Bridge Music, or used in a commercial, promotional or public service announcement or as a logo.
FA Feature Ambient Meets the definition of a Feature use in a locally-produced program on a per program local television station less than 15 seconds and is not inserted by the station.
FB Feature Bunch Meets the definition of a Feature use on a general or internet music user.
FD Feature Detection Indicates a Nielsen detection of a Feature use for Radio only.
FN Feature in an Infomercial Performance in an Infomercial which is a principal focus of audience attention and is not a Theme, Background Music, Cue Music or Bridge Music.
J Jingle Music written for and used in TV commercials or created for a purpose other than a TV commercial but used in a TV commercial with lyrics altered for the purpose of the TV commercial.
JX Jingle Medley More than one work used in a TV commercial and all works meet the definition of a jingle.
LT Logo Theme A work associated with a production company or studio, usually airing at the end of a TV program.
LN Logo Theme Infomercial A Logo Theme airing in an Infomercial.
NF Non-Feature Music used on Radio that is not the principle focus of audience attention. This includes music used on radio as a Station Id, Theme, Background Cue or within a Commercial, promotional, public service announcement or a logo.
NT Network Theme Musical work performed on a major TV network used as an identifying signature of a radio or television personality or of all or part of a radio or television program or series of programs.
R Recital Performance at a concert or symphony hall by a chamber or choral ensemble or other performers that are not licensed as Symphony Orchestras.
S Serious A work, such as a sonata or symphony that is 4 minutes or longer, performed on Radio or TV but originally written expressly for the classical concert stage.
SD Serious Detection Indicates a Nielsen detection of a Serious Work used as a Feature for Radio only.
SP Network/Station Promo Music in a TV station or TV program promotional spot.
SX Promo Medley Music in a TV station or TV program promotional spot that uses more than one composition.
SY Symphonic Performance licensed under ASCAP's Symphony Orchestra license agreements.
T Theme Music used as an identifying signature of a TV personality or of all or part of a TV program or series of programs.
TC Theme To Commerical An existing song used in a TV commercial.
TN Theme To Infomercial A Theme used in a TV Infomercial.
TX Theme to Commercial Medley More than one work is used in a TV commercial and all works in the medley meet the definition of a Theme to Commercial.
