Why should you attend the ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO? Your career could take an unexpected turn, just like it did for ASCAP songwriter Tia P. Read her incredible story and advice about how to approach your own EXPO experience in 2017.
Where do I begin? My life has NOT been the same since attending the ASCAP EXPO in 2016. Without my knowledge, my manager C. Von submitted one of my songs "4 Seats From Beyoncé" to be considered for the R&B/Hip-Hop feedback panel. Well, not only was my song selected, but it received raved reviews, and not just from the distinguished panel, but my peers. The feeling was indescribable and one that I will cherish forever.
A month later I was contacted by one of the panelists, Nick Jarjour. who in turn referred me to the Vice President of Riptide Music Licensing, Mr. Keatly Haldeman. Upon hearing my music, he signed three of my songs immediately and give me 30 tracks to write to, which I completed in a matter of two months and that are currently being pitched for artists and licensing placements.
However, in spite of all that, what I learned the most is, the registration only gets you in the door - it's what you do once you get in that matters most. The EXPO is a great way to make new friends and meet other aspiring artists and songwriters. I've made some great friends along the way and have co-written with a few as well. Most notably is ASCAP songwriter Cody Jay who has a new single that's about to drop titled "Tell Me" that I co-wrote and appear on as a feature.
I'm truly happy to be a part of the ASCAP Urban family. Thank you for allowing me to share MY story. S/O J. Jones, Moya, Alyssa & Joncier Rienecker.
