America SCORES is an after-school program that uses soccer and poetry to inspire literacy, healthy living and civic responsibility among urban youth. As part of the
ASCAP Songwriter Residency program, Cathy and Marcy will focus on the students' creative work as a way to teach them about the craft of songwriting.
ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES launched in Washington D.C. on October 25, 2006 with hip-hop songwriter Lysette Titi and Americana-rock songwriter John Francis at the helm. The ASCAP Foundation, a public charity dedicated to supporting music education and talent development programs, funds the program.
The songwriting mentorship program will continue in New York City on November 9 and 13 at PS 161 and PS 180 where 60 elementary school students will work with leading Latin songwriter Roberto Poveda.
CATHY FINK AND MARCY MARXER are an eclectic folk festival on their own terms, celebrating 20+ years of music together. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Grammy nominations in the Folk and Children's music fields, and 40 WAMMY Awards (Washington Area Music Association) for folk, bluegrass and children's music make them top artists on a variety of circuits. They have sung at the White House Easter Egg Roll, appeared on the "Weekend Today Show" and on National Public Radio, been keynote singers for the AFL-CIO, entertained the Queen of Thailand, and performed at hundreds of folk festivals. Critics have praised their light harmonies and instrumental versatility. Cathy and Marcy sing, yodel, harmonize, spin tales, play breathtaking instrumentals and reach out to their audiences, which take part in the celebration.
