The ASCAP Foundation/Heineken USA Announce
Recipients of Pop/Rock and Latin Grant Program

$2,000 Grants Awarded to Songwriters

The ASCAP Foundation and Heineken USA are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2004 Heineken USA/ASCAP Foundation Latin and Pop/Rock grant program.

Launched earlier this year, this new grant program benefits emerging Latin music songwriters in the Los Angeles and Miami markets, and emerging Pop/Rock music songwriters in the New York, Chicago, and Boston markets. The songwriter (or songwriters) of the winning song from each of the cities receives a $2,000 grant.

The full list of winners and the winning song titles are:

Latin Grant:

Los Angeles: Michelle for "Muñeca"

Miami: Marc Millan for "Dejame amarte"
 
Pop/Rock Grant:

Boston: The Slip (Andrew Barr, Brad Barr and Marc Friedman) for "Children of December"

Chicago: Michael McDermott for "Dance With Me"

New York: Kobie Jackson for "Ordinary"
 
 

The Heineken USA/ASCAP Foundation Grant Program is designed to assist up-and-coming songwriters in furthering their careers, in line with The ASCAP Foundation's commitment to developing new musical talent and Heineken’s efforts to support emerging music.

Heineken USA Inc., the nation’s largest beer importer, is a subsidiary of Heineken N.V. (Netherlands), which is the world’s second-largest brewer. Brands imported into the U.S. include: Heineken Lager, the world’s most international beer brand; Heineken Dark; Amstel Light, the largest-selling imported light beer brand, and Buckler non-alcoholic brew. .

Since 1975 The ASCAP Foundation has been dedicated to supporting American music creators and encouraging the development of American music through educational and talent development programs. Included in these are songwriting workshops, grants, scholarships, music education programs, and public service projects for senior composers and lyricists. The programs of The ASCAP Foundation are supported by contributions from ASCAP members and from music lovers throughout the United States.
