Four ASCAP legends are among the 2013 inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At a star-studded April 18th ceremony held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, the following ASCAP luminaries were inducted into one of rock’s most prestigious fellowships:
Performer Category
Heart [ASCAP Founders Award honorees]
Randy Newman [Keynote speaker at the 2007 ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO]
Donna Summer
Ahmet Ertegun Award for Lifetime Achievement
Quincy Jones [ASCAP Founders Award honoree]
These four inductees hail from diverse stylistic backgrounds, from hard rock to R&B, disco to jazz, pop to film music. Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said that this year’s class “represents the broad, compelling and significant definition of rock and roll.” It’s also a reminder of the breadth and enduring legacy of ASCAP’s family of music creators.
The ceremony also featured amazing performances from a host of ASCAP stars, from John Mayer to Jennifer Hudson (performing Donna Summer’s “Last Dance”), Chris Cornell (joining Heart onstage) to Tom Petty and Jackson Browne (who performed Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.”) and Usher (performing “Rock With You” in tribute to Quincy Jones).
For the first time in its history, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame offered fans the opportunity to participate in the induction selection process for the 2013 inductees. The ceremony was also open to the public to attend. Those that weren’t able to attend the ceremony will be able to watch the official broadcast on HBO on Saturday, May 18th at 9pm ET/PT.
