New Music Tuesday: Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell's Old Yellow Moon

When two of the most beloved names in country music come together to make a record, you expect expert musicianship, impeccable songcraft, sparkling production. All those qualities are present in Old Yellow Moon, the new duo album from ASCAP country royalty Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. What's less expected is how easy, how comfortable it feels.

That's a natural byproduct of Harris and Crowell's nearly four decades of shared history. Crowell's "Bluebird Wine" opened Harris's 1975 debut, Pieces of the Sky (it shows up here, too). He would later join Harris's famed Hot Band as a rhythm guitarist and harmony singer. They've played together off and on over the years, and you can hear it in the way their voices twin so beautifully, in the lived-in feel of Old Yellow Moon. They sing of life, love and getting older with the authority of two master musicians who've lived it.

We caught up with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell on the red carpet at a recent Grammy Foundation event to chat about their wise and wonderful new album.
