ASCAP Members Receive Eight Oscar Music Nominations

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its nominations for the 2013 Oscars on Thursday morning at a ceremony held in Beverly Hills, CA, and ASCAP members came out strong, claiming an impressive eight nods.

Composer Dario Marianelli (PRS), who previously took home the Oscar for Best Original Score in 2007 for his work on Atonement, receives his third major nod this award season – after nominations from both BAFTA and the Golden Globes – for the score from Anna Karenina.

Among this year’s nominees for Original Song are Grammy Award-winner Paul Epworth for “Skyfall” from Skyfall, and Claude-Michel Schönberg, Herbert Kretzmer (PRS) and Alain Boublil for “Suddenly” from Les Misérables, all of whom were recently nominated in the same category for both the 2013 Golden Globe Awards and 2013 Critics’ Choice Awards.

ASCAP composer Benh Zeitlin also received a Directing Nomination for the film Beasts of the Southern Wild.  Zeitlin not only directed the film, but also co-scored it.
