U.K. Court Shows Rogue Website The Pirate Bay the Plank
By Timothy Lee -- The operators of The Pirate Bay — alongside many other illegal file sharing websites — don't just passively violate laws. Rather, they're downright brazen in using online consumers as pawns for making millions of dollars from illicit activities – up to $3 million per month, according to expert testimony in this case. The need to combat digital theft is therefore still very prevalent, and last month's hysterical website blackout to protest proposed Congressional rogue sites legislation did absolutely nothing to address that issue.

BRUSSELS: EU Suspends Copyright Treaty Ratification
By Don Melvin -- The European Commission, facing steep opposition, has suspended efforts to ratify a new international anti-counterfeiting agreement — instead referring it to Europe's highest court to see whether it violates any fundamental EU rights. EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht said Wednesday that an opinion from the European Court of Justice would clear away the fog of misinformation surrounding the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, known as ACTA.
OK Go: YouTube Revenues Are 'Like Finding Change On the Street...'

Yet despite more than a hundred million plays, YouTube plays are hardly generating any substantive revenue for the group. "I can speak to an artist who gets a lot of traffic, which is OK Go," manager Jamie Kitman told a SF MusicTech Summit audience last week. "And I would say that 'trickle' is the operative word, in terms of revenue we receive from places like YouTube and VEVO."

Dean Kay has been at the helm of some of the most highly respected and forward thinking music publishing companies in the world, first as COO of the Welk Music Group, then as President/ CEO of the US division of the PolyGram International Publishing Group, and now as President/CEO of his own precedent setting venture, Lichelle Music Company. Prior to his involvement in publishing, he was a successful songwriter, having had hundreds of his compositions recorded - including "That's Life" by Frank Sinatra. Mr. Kay has been a member of the Board of Directors of ASCAP since 1989 and is Chairman of its New Technologies Committee. He is also on the Board of the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA).
