The ASCAP Foundation Robert Allen Award Presented to Chris Snyder

Chris Snyder

Singer/songwriter and ASCAP member Chris Snyder was selected as the recipient of the 2011 ASCAP Foundation Robert Allen Award. Snyder was a participant in the recent 2011 ASCAP Foundation Paul Cunningham Workshop in New York City. Snyder's song, "If I See You Again" was cited by the workshop panel for its overall craft, artistry, and compositional elements. "Chris really took the workshop seriously and wanted to come away a better writer. His winning song was evidence of the time and effort he put into improving upon his natural ability to already write great songs," commented Marc Emert-Hutner, ASCAP's Sr. Director, Membership & Creative Affairs.

The Robert Allen Award was established in 2006 by Patty Allen in honor of her husband, songwriter and ASCAP member Bob Allen, author of such standards as "Chances Are," "It's Not for Me to Say," and "Home for the Holidays." In the spirit of Allen's work, this cash award is presented annually to an ASCAP songwriter in the pop and/or jazz musical genres participating in The ASCAP Foundation Paul Cunningham Workshop in New York. Past recipients include Rosi Golan, Joshua Meltzer and Nick Howard.

Chris Snyder, a songwriter, composer, producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist is based in Brooklyn, NY. After picking up the violin at age 4, he landed his first singing gig as the featured boy soprano on the soundtrack for The Crow, the first of many Hollywood jobs. An electric guitar, a 4-track tape recorder, and a persistent creative spark led Chris to form The States in 2002, a band he spent 7 years with before embarking on the ambitious threesixfive project in 2010. Under the moniker of Ace Reporter, Chris wrote, recorded, and published an original track every 24 hours. Now complete, the threesixfive project spans the sonic spectrum, has already spawned 4 EPs, and forms the basis for Ace Reporter's debut album, Yearling, which will be released in early 2012. In addition to his work as a solo artist, Chris has produced original material for a number of film and theater productions, including Fourteen Flights, which enjoyed a sellout run at this year's New York International Fringe Festival.
