Your new single, “Arrow Through My Heart,” is out August 2nd. How did you decide on the name for the song?
I love coming up with lyrics that are emotional yet a little naughty and have a bit of a double meaning! I can't help myself! “Arrow Through My Heart” is definitely that! The song is about a girl who wants it all. Someone that will treat her right and make her feel right!
You’ve opened for Katy Perry, LMFAO and Shiny Toy Guns, and you’ve performed alongside Lenny Kravitz, Jessica Simpson, Will Smith, but you’ve also had your own impressive résumé of headlining major live shows. What was your favorite live experience?
I love the studio but nothing compares to being on stage and feeling the energy from the crowd! I really do love every type of performance whether it is small and intimate or a huge sold out venue. I will say performing at the Hollywood Bowl is at the top of the favorite list! It was an amazing summer night at a legendary Los Angeles landmark. Can't wait to step back on that stage!
Who and what are the biggest influences on your music?
My biggest influences hands down are people and everyday life experiences. Whether it's a fight you had with a friend or the boy that broke your heart ... when you write from a true place true magic happens.
If you had to pick a movie title that perfectly describes you, what would it be and why?
I would say Black Swan because I have two distinct sides to my personality! I'm a good girl and a bad girl!
In addition to your music, you also have acting and dancing skills. But what fewer people may know is that you were also a competitive artistic roller skater. How did you get into that? Have you ever show off that unique skill in your live shows or music videos? If not, would you consider it?
I do have an interesting skill that very few people know about! My mom put me in lessons along with every other activity imaginable but this little known sport of competitive artistic roller-skating became my obsession! It definitely makes me different and I have used it on stage as an artist! The audience was shocked to say the least! We are putting some major shows together and I'm not afraid to lace up the skates for a song or two ... so be on the look out.
What are you looking forward to in the next year or so? Any big plans?
A ton of shows, traveling and new music releases that I am so proud of! A single with Big Beat / Atlantic Records is in the works. I’m looking forward to that a lot! Television projects and lots of other exciting stuff happening too!
Your songs have been on countless TV shows, movies, and other platforms. If there’s one show you’d like to see your song on most, what would it be and why?
My dream would be Glee! I love their take on popular music! It's one of my biggest guilty pleasures!!
