Songwriter Gabbie Rae chats with "On the Come Up" about being the new kid on the block.

Gabbie Rae

Where are you from originally?

Gabbie Rae: I am originally from Massachusetts. When I was seven, I moved to Myrtle Beach, then we moved to Atlanta - after I was signed to Purple Kidz. We've been in Atlanta since December of 2010.

How old are you?

Gabbie: 13.

How has your experience been with Big Boi's new record label, Purple Kidz, as its first signee?

Gabbie: It's brand new. It's really been so much fun working with Big Boi and Purple Kidz.

What are you working on, currently?

Gabbie: I am currently working on the I Wanna Be Famous album, which will have different styles of music on it, such as rock, pop and soul. And I've been doing a lot of rehearsing.

What inspires you?

Gabbie: My family, friends and fans inspire me. I have so many music inspirations, which inspired the different sounds on my album, but my dad is my musical mentor. He helps me through everything.

What sets you apart from other artists in your age group?

Gabbie: I think my musical style is what makes me different. When people hear this album, they're going to hear various types of music.

What advice do you have for up-and-coming songwriters?

Gabbie: Say your prayers, and listen to your parents.
