University Scores
The 2009 ASCAP/Columbia University Film Scoring Workshop connects graduate film students with film composers in an intensive, valuable course
ASCAP partnered again this spring with the Film Division at Columbia University for the third year of the ASCAP/Columbia University Film Scoring Workshop. The program is taught by Alex Steyermark (director, One Last Thing, Prey For Rock and Roll ; music supervisor for directors Ang Lee, Spike Lee)
Columbia opened the workshop as a course to over 60 graduate film students for submissions. Four 15-20 minute short films were selected, as was the Columbia University Film Festival trailer. ASCAP curated a list of appropriate film composers who submitted to be hired by the five filmmakers. Steyermark guided the filmmakers through the film scoring process.
All five composers recorded their scores with a 14-piece ensemble at NYC's Legacy Studios. The films were screened, along with many other student films, at the annual Columbia University Film Festival (CUFF) this May in New York and Los Angeles.
