The ASCAP Foundation Awards Singer/Songwriter Scholarships at Grammy Camp

The fourth annual Grammy Camp took place this summer from July 12-26th at the Thornton School of Music on the USC campus in Los Angeles. This year, as a result of funding received from The ASCAP Foundation Irving Caesar Fund, two students were selected as recipients of The ASCAP Foundation Singer/Songwriter Scholarships. They were twin brother and sister, Ashley and Ashton Ruiz, accomplished singer/songwriters and performers. Their group, 2-U-Neek, has performed on BET's 106th & Park and they released their first CD, The Birth, in 2007. Ashley and Ashton are both ASCAP members.

Grammy Camp is a two-week summer camp for high-school students with a focus on the music industry. It provides an opportunity for students to get hands-on experience from music professionals including Grammy Award-winning producer and ASCAP member Jimmy Jam. The students took field trips to Capitol Records, the Hollywood Bowl and a variety of recording and production studios. Grammy Camp is a program of the Grammy Foundation.
