Supporting Music Education
Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger shows class as he helps boost "Music in the Schools"
Since 2000, The ASCAP Foundation has partnered with the VH1 Save the Music Foundation and Warner Bros. Publications - recently acquired by Alfred Publishing Co., Inc. to provide sheet music, band arrangements and folios to thousands of public school students nationwide through our "Music in the Schools" music education program. "Music in the Schools" complements the existing VH1 Save the Music Program, which delivers musical instruments to public schools across the country, by simultaneously delivering folios, sheet music, band arrangements and method books. This initiative is being fulfilled by Alfred Publishing Co. for 2007 to ensure that students have quality music to play as they learn their instruments.
On February 13, to coincide with the launching of the film, Music and Lyrics, ASCAP member and Music & Lyrics composer Adam Schlesinger on behalf of The ASCAP Foundation presented a check for $500,000 to Brian Culot, principal of PS 334, Anderson School, in New York City. This check represents The ASCAP Foundation's contribution of sheet music, folios and band arrangements to more than 1,000 public schools nationwide over the past six years.
