ASCAP and Worldspace Radio on Abbey Road
ASCAP presented a new music showcase called "U-Pop Sessions" on February 15 at the legendary Studio 2 at Abbey Road Studios, the home of the Beatles. A mix of signed and unsigned bands was invited to perform a set to be broadcast live across satellite station Worldspace Radio. Some of the acts that took part in the day included the following: Mr Hudson, Lucie Silvas, The Hours, Ross Copperman, Tiny Dancers, The Sounds, Dragonette, Diane Birch, Red Light Company and Eliza Doolittle. Around 50 record labels, music publishers and press people traveled to London for the event.
Abbey Road Studios is filled with vintage equipment from the days of the Beatles. In fact Studio 2, where the Beatles recorded, is the only studio at Abbey Road that has not been altered since those now legendary recordings were made. The acts used equipment used by the Beatles including John Lennon's favorite rehearsal piano and the piano used on the recording of "Day in a Life." ASCAP's Ross Gautreau said, "All the acts that played had a fantastic experience. Studio 2 is like a spiritual homecoming for a lot of these artists."
Worldspace broadcasted the show live on radio to 135 countries and over 3 million listeners. This is the second year that Worldspace has showcased music at Abbey Road, and ASCAP was delighted to be involved in picking a line-up this year. We are looking forward to next year's U-Pop Sessions at Abbey Road.
