Oliver's Twist

Oliver Stone gives a Keynote Q&A at the ASCAP-sponsored Hollywood Reporter/Billboard Film & TV Music Conference

ASCAP was the principal and only platinum sponsor of the 2006 Hollywood Reporter/Billboard Film & TV Music Conference, held in November at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Events included sessions and panels on music for film and TV as well as live performances and roundtable discussions.

ASCAP sponsored two panels. The first, a Keynote Q&A with Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone, Grammy-winning composer Craig Armstrong, and music supervisor Budd Carr, was a discussion of their collaboration in providing music for World Trade Center and the role the music played in the film. The second, "The Heartsongs of Happy Feet," moderated by journalist Dan Kimpel, featured film composer John Powell, vocalist/contractor/conductor Edie Lehmann Boddicker, SVP of Music for Warner Bros. Pictures Darren Higman, and Dan Butler, SVP of Business & Legal Affairs/Music for Paramount Pictures.

Other highlights included an exclusive Q&A with ASCAP songwriter Melissa Etheridge; the panel "Anatomy Of A Film: Dreamgirls" with composer/songwriter Henry Krieger, producers/songwriters The Underdogs, music supervisor Randy Spendlove, and director Bill Condon; a music supervisor roundtable discussion; a Women In Music master class; and the panel "The Director/Composer Line" which focused on the relationship between Perfume director/composer Tom Tykwer and fellow composers Reinhold Heil and Johnny Klimek.
