A Composers' Forum of Contemporary Scoring Technique
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently completed a three-evening seminar series in Hollywood, offering a detailed look at the film scoring process from the perspective of composers.
The first seminar featured a panel with Academy Award winning ASCAP composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek (Finding Neverland), among others. It was moderated by Charles Bernstein, ASCAP composer and Foundation Board member and current Vice President of the Motion Picture Academy.
The second panel included ASCAP composer Mark Isham and ASCAP composer and Board member Bruce Broughton (Tombstone, Miracle on 34th Street).
The final session was held in October and featured the music of ASCAP composers John Powell (Happy Feet, United 93) and Michael Giacchino (Mission Impossible III, Ratatouille).
