(l-r): ASCAP composers Elik Alvarez and Freddy Sheinfeld

ASCAP composers Freddy Sheinfeld and Elik Alvarez contribute music to the newest exhibit at LA's Museum of Tolerance

The evocative music of ASCAP composers Freddy Sheinfeld and Elik Alvarez is featured in the newest exhibit at The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. Called "In Our Time," the exhibit consists of three screens that display videos and images of some of the most egregious crimes against humanity of the 20th and 21st centuries, including the situations in Darfur, North Korea, Rwanda, Cambodia and the Balkans, as well as terrorism worldwide.

The short documentary is partly narrated by human rights advocates and victims of these tragic events, but the bulk of the film is driven by text and music. Sheinfeld and Alvarez mixed orchestral textures with ethnic elements to reflect the international scope of the film, and enlisted the aid of renowned singer Lizbeth Scott (Munich, The Passion of the Christ, Minority Report) and woodwind virtuoso Chris Bleth (Pirates of the Caribbean, Battlestar Galactica, Mission Impossible) to deepen its emotional heft.

A screening of "In Our Time" was the centerpiece of a ceremony commemorating the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, held on June 19, 2007 at the Museum of Tolerance. The film is now on permanent exhibit at the Museum, and can also be seen at the New York Tolerance Center.
