The 2006 Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards

Sponsored by the Gibson Foundation

Since 2002, The ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards have encouraged young jazz creators. The Gibson Foundation, www.gibson.com/foundation, which was established by Gibson Guitar Corp. to expand the company’s charitable activities, now sponsors this national program. The Gibson Foundation supports The ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards program in fulfillment of its commitment to educational excellence through music and the arts.

27 Young Jazz Composer recipients who range in age from 13 to 29 were selected by ASCAP composer/judges John Fedchock, Jay Leonhart and Rufus Reid. The Young Jazz Composers received cash awards and were recognized at the annual ASCAP Jazz Wall event in New York on June 21. This year’s ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award recipients, ages 19-29, are Omar Alvarado, Chris Blacker, Daniel Blake, Jonathan Blake, Michael Blanco, Patrick Cornelius, Zaccai Curtis, Jeff Fairbanks, Ross Garren, Julie Hardy, Ethan Herr, Ayn Inserto, Pascal Le Boeuf, Remy Le Boeuf, Yotam Rosenbaum, Scott Routenberg, Sam Sadigursky, Kyle Saulnier, Perry Smith, Loren Stillman, Erica Von Kleist and Ezra Weiss. The youngest ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composers, ages 13-18, are Alex Han, 18; Morgan Jones, 18; Jay Rattman, 18; Matt Savage, 13 and Ted Taforo, 16.
