Latin's Urban Revolution
 |
Considered to be one of the pioneers who paved the road for Latin hip-hop and reggaetón, Vico C has been doing his thing since his splash debut in 1989, after which he followed up with multiple hit singles in the early 90's. Known for his philosophical rhymes, Vico C gained huge recognition not just for himself, but for a new movement that was in its infancy. He brought great attention to it throughout all of Puerto Rico and Latin America. His album, La Recta Final, made him a household name and gained him the title as everyone's "Favorite Rapper" in Puerto Rico. As he traveled throughout the 90's, he became a huge influence in the urban Latin scene, not only applying his hand in the production and development of other artists in the budding genre but becoming a role model as the man behind his very own label, VC Records, through which other great artists were introduced.
His critically acclaimed record, Vivo, was awarded a Latin Grammy. Surviving a motorcycle accident that left him in a deep depression, Vico C looked for an outlet to release him from his low emotional state and turned to drugs and alcohol. When he got to a point that he realized his life was being taken from him, he became a born again Christian. When Vico C returned to the hip-hop scene with En Honor a la Verdad, he collected his second Latin Grammy. Touring relentlessly all over South and Central America as well as the United States, Vico C returned to the studio to record his eighth and very successful record, Desahogo. Vico C is not only one of the godfathers of Latin hip-hop but also an icon in the Latin world.
