Latin's Urban Revolution

NINA SKY

If during the summer of 2005 you heard N.O.R.E.'s call to reggaetón, "Oye Mi Canto," arrived at the hook and found yourself in melodic heaven, you didn't make it to the other side just yet. But you got pretty close. The two, beautifully angelic voices in the song's hook are those of identical twins Natalie and Nicole Albino, collectively known as Nina Sky. Natalie and Nicole grew up in the multi-cultural borough of Queens, New York, ingesting all kinds of music during their childhood and teenage years. Their stepfather, a DJ, would play everything from Miles Davis to classic rock music to the pure pop sounds of Madonna. Keeping their ears open to everything they heard was a true blessing for they both knew early on that music was calling their name. With the full support of their family, Nina Sky embarked on a trip with the production team The Jettsonz that took them to showcases and auditions, working within a group of girls until they finally became a duo. A meeting with DJ Cipha Sounds and a demo landed Nina Sky a deal with Next Plateau Records/Universal Records. When their debut record was released it quickly put the girls on the charts. The single, "Move Ya Body," a feel-good song about warm weather, rump shaking and a get - the-party-started attitude became an instant hit on radio, in clubs and on MTV and BET, where the video received heavy rotation. Winners of the Urban Latin Song of the Year with "Oye Mi Canto," Nina Sky have also performed on many other artists' songs, including those by Ivy Queen, Yaga and Mackie, to name a few. Their angelic vocals have in turn helped other songs become heavenly hits.
