Latin's Urban Revolution
 |
Growing up in New York as a kid and being present as hip-hop was born and began to evolve was all that Don Dinero needed to know he wanted to be a part of a genre that was spreading around the world. Yet Don Dinero, born Jose Manuel Guitian, wanted to reach out to his Latino people who needed a voice in hip-hop that they could relate to, that they could count on when life takes its turns. Deciding to grind it out, Don Dinero and his brother started their own label in the early 90's. Even though not much happened with the label, it opened his eyes and pointed this talented emcee in the direction of Miami where the massive Latino community awaited that voice. After releasing the record, Que Bola!, the single "Pana Pana" began to get radio play on Miami's Salsa 98.3. Although the tropicallygeared station format had until then never programmed anything urban, Dinero's buzz began to rise like the morning sun over the Atlantic Ocean in Miami. Universal Latino knocked on Don Dinero's door with an offer to pick up Que Bola! for distribution and reissued it in 2003 as an enhanced edition. With the single, "Si No Hay Pa Mi," from his sophomore record, Que Si, sizzling onto the airwaves in early 2006, Don Dinero continues to be one of the leading forces of the urban Latin movement.
