More than 200 music industry leaders joined dozens of Christian music's top stars, including Mercy Me, Jeremy Camp, Chris Tomlin, Jaci Velasquez, Matthew West, Joy Williams, Newsboys, Bebo Norman, Todd Agnew, Sonicflood, David Crowder, 4 Him, Mark Schultz, The Katinas, Scotty Wilbanks, Bethany Dillon and The Afters to celebrate the presentation of the 28th Annual ASCAP Christian Music Awards at a dinner held at the Richland Country Club in Nashville, Tennessee. This year's gala evening, hosted by ASCAP Senior Vice President Connie Bradley, featured a movie theme. ASCAP Vice President Dan Keen joined Bradley in presenting awards to the ASCAP writers and publishers of the most performed Christian songs of 2005.
The evening's top writer and publisher awards were: Songwriter of the Year: Jeremy Camp for "Take You Back" and "This Man;" Song of the Year: "Take You Back" (written by Jeremy Camp, published by Thirsty Moon River Publishing) and Christian Publisher of the Year: EMI CMG Publishing for "About You," "Brave," "Devotion," "Holy Is The Lord," "Indescribable," "Meant To Live," "Stars," "The Way I Was Made" and "This Is Your Life."
Jeremy Camp is the reigning two-time GMA Music Awards Male Vocalist of the Year. His classic pop-rock vocals have earned him nine #1 singles at Christian radio. Camp was also ASCAP 2005 Christian Songwriter of the Year.
ASCAP presented its Crescendo Award to one of CCM's most treasured early pioneers, the late Keith Green. The ASCAP Impact Award was given to Jon Foreman whose band, Switchfoot, is having an unusual and significant impact in mainstream rock music.
In accordance with the theme for the evening, ASCAP artists presented songs from television and the movies. Featured were MTV's The Afters and Bethany Dillon. The planning and preparation of the evening's events was directed and produced by Dan Keen, joined by Gerilynn Zettel, Suzanne Lee, Michelle Goble, Chad Green, Shauna McCulley and Charline Wilhite all from ASCAP's Nashville office as well as Christina Thomashefski.
