Something to Sing About

The ASCAP Foundation/Disney Musical Theatre Workshop completes 11th Year

The second decade of the annual ASCAP Foundation/Disney Musical Theatre Workshop in Los Angeles, held over five evenings in February/March 2006, presented an intense series of seminars focusing on the key elements of a musical. In a departure from the usual presentation of excerpts from submitted projects, each evening was devoted to a separate topic such as music and lyrics, librettos and getting a musical produced. Directed by Academy Award-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Prince of Egypt, Godspell, Pippin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame), the new format proved to be a hit with workshop attendees who had the opportunity to exchange ideas, ask questions and learn from some of the leading practitioners and authorities from the world of musical theatre, including Jason Robert Brown (Parade) and Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls).

The ASCAP Foundation/Disney Musical Theatre Workshop in Los Angeles is part of an ongoing series of workshops sponsored by The ASCAP Foundation to nurture new American musicals.
