Although she is only in her mid-20's, Nicole Atkins is a veteran of the New York anti-folk scene. On The Party's Over, her backup band, The Sea, produces carnival-esque music that adds to Atkins' confident lyrics. Her songs search for the meaning in her surroundings, while her influences span a wide range of decades. In late 2005, Atkins won The ASCAP Foundation Sammy Cahn Award for songwriting.
