(l-r): SOCAN Vice President of Member Relations/General Manager Kent Sturgeon, ASCAP composer Michael Giacchino (Lost, Mission Impossible 3) and Todd Brabec

O Canada!

ASCAP participates in SOCAN seminar at the Vancouver International Film Centre

In July, ASCAP's Todd Brabec and Nancy Knutsen were participants in a SOCAN-sponsored seminar, The Business of Creating Music for Film, Television and Video Games at the Vancouver International Film Centre. Brabec and Knutsen joined award-winning composer, Michael Giacchino, who has had critical success writing scores for films, episodic TV and games, along with Worldwide Executive of Music & Audio for Electronic Arts Steve Schnur, in a discussion about both the creative and business elements of composing, producing and licensing music. Todd and Jeff Brabec also presented a panel called Making Money from Film & Television Music, which was moderated by SOCAN Vice President of Legal Services and General Counsel, Paul Spurgeon. The soldout event was attended by composers and songwriters from throughout Canada, and also included additional panels featuring SOCAN executives from both Vancouver and Toronto, including Irene Herzuk, Pat Mueller, and Terry O'Brien, as well as Los Angeles-based SOCAN consultant Bob Hunka.
