Met Commissions New Opera from ASCAP Members

The Metropolitan Opera has commissioned a number of new operas from many ASCAP members across a number of genres. This is the first significant collaboration between the Met and the Lincoln Center Theater and is referred to as the Met/LCT Opera/Theater Commissions. One of the commissions was a new opera from composer Wynton Marsalis and playwright John Guare. Other members receiving commissions were musical theater composer Adam Guettel, folk-pop singer Rufus Wainwright and the composer/librettist team of Jeanine Tesori and Tony Kushner.
