Paul Gauguin (self-portrait)

Painting at the Piano

Songwriter-composer George Fischoff depicts Gauguin in new production

Composer George Fischoff, best known for penning the memorable 1960s pop hits, "98.6" and "Lazy Day," has turned his attention to musical theater. A production of Fischoff's Gauguin/Savage Light, a musical dramatization of the life of French modernist painter Paul Gauguin (pictured left in a self-portrait) is being staged at Manhattan's Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex from November 8 through December 31, 2006. The show, already the subject of good notices by The New York Times and Time Out New York, is directed by Michael Ormond and features Fischoff himself at the piano.
