World Hunger Year celebrated its 30th Anniversary by honoring those who have made a difference in the fight against hunger and poverty at the Chelsea Piers in New York City on June 6. The event, hosted by WHY Chair and singer/songwriter Jen Chapin (daughter of the late Harry Chapin), honored Multi-Grammy Award-winning songwriter and recording artist Michael McDonald, as well as Ed Barron, Dan Glickman, Peter Mann and Catherine Sneed.
Singer/songwriters Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson presented the ASCAP Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award to McDonald and then joined him onstage for an exciting live performance. World Hunger Year is a non-profit organization co-founded by the late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin and radio talk show host and present Executive Director Bill Ayres in 1975. WHY attacks the root causes of hunger and poverty by promoting effective and innovative community-based solutions that create self-reliance, economic justice and food security.
